I also don't like modeling that much - I was taught on Lightwave, which isn't that great of a program. I love to do animation though. If you really think that you want to be doing animation, then you should really get the book: The Animator's Survival Kit. Even though it's all in 2d, it still teaches a lot of animation techniques to make you animations much better.
